Heavy is the debut studio album by the rock band Iron Butterfly, released in early 1968. The first two tracks, "Unconscious Power" and "Possession", were released as the respective sides of a single. Three of the group's members (Darryl DeLoach, Jerry Penrod, and Danny Weis) left the band shortly after the album was recorded, leaving Ingle and Bushy to find replacements.

Iron Butterfly is an American rock band best known for the 1968 hit, providing a dramatic sound that led the way towards the development of hard rock and heavy metal music. Formed in San Diego, California, among band members who used to be "arch enemies", their heyday was the late 1960s, but the band has been reincarnated with various members with varying levels of success, with no new recordings since 1975

Only for completionists (3%). I was surprised to see Iron Butterfly on PA and I could not resist to write abou this album. It was a fine 70s hard rock sample, with some prog influences (most of them brought up by the excellent new keyboards man Bill Demartinez). Coming after the disappointing Scorching Beauty, this CD was a big, big improvement.

Iron Butterfly released six studio albums between the years 1968 and 1975. The band has toured and performed longer than almost any other band in classic rock history. Iron Butterfly has continued to perform since 1966 to the present day. They broke up three times, but always reformed rather quickly with a combination of new and old members. Although the band Iron Butterfly released an album entitled Scorching Beauty, the song Scorching Beauty, was released on the album Sun and Steel. The Sun and Steel album was released in October of 1975. The song Scorching Beauty, was the album’s closing track. 6 – Fields of Sun. Iron Butterfly’s debut album was a powerhouse rock and roll record. Coming in at No 6. on our Top 10 Iron Butterfly songs list is the album’s third track on side two entitled Fields of Sun.
