Ryo Fukui - 福居良 (Scenery)Full Album 1976. 3 years ago 3 years ago. Jazz & Blues.

Unquestionably one of the most important Japanese jazz albums ever recorded, Scenery reveals Ryo Fukui as a miraculously brilliant self-taught pianist fusing modal, bop, and cool jazz influences for a very personal, dexterous and game-changing take on classic standards made famous by Bing Crosby and John Coltrane among others.

Because of Jap-Jazz’s confused identity, one the genre’s most important albums was Ryo Fukui’s Scenery. While other artists were busy getting to know the textures of music, self-taught pianist Ryo, accompanied by a drummer and a bass player, decided to give his own spin on American jazz. He borrowed elements of post-bop, cool jazz, and even blues to create something unique, something unheard of before: a jazz album that prioritized composition rather than improvisation. The six song album continuously proves that Ryo is the complete master at his craft. Every section flows seamlessly into one.

Stellar fidelity. Absolutely stellar. I am very impressed! ! !
As many have noted this sounds quite good. Probably the best reissue of the album. Its got a fullness to the soundspectrum, capturing bass very well. I will say though that the album might be EQed just a slight smidge too low making some drum and piano parts sound a little lower in the frequency spectrum than they probably should be, but that might be solved with a brighter cart.Although this release might not have the amazing detail or imaging of say what a Music Matters and Kevin Gray cut would, its great none the less. It might just be the limit of the recordings for all I know.I must say too that the pressing is fantastic. The vinyl is quiet and has no crackles at all.Equipment Used:Rega RP1 with Nagaoka MP-200 CartridgeCyrus 2 AmplifierSystem Fidelity SF-3050 Tower SpeakersCustom made HQ Speaker Cables
This is such an impressive reissue. Everything about it is top quality. I've never heard this album with such clarity before! Get this while you can!
No, the logo is print on the OBI, not directly on the cover.
Excuse my ignorance but I have to ask, is the "We Release Jazz" logo imprinted onto the album art itself?
I got it today ! (Two hours ago... finally). But to fully enjoy a pressing like that, I would need to replace the stylus.
Make no mistake, this is a fine fine record. a splendid pressing, a lovely thick cover, and the music is just incredible. pay the money buy on sight.
What a fantastic release! I don't think I've ever heard a vinyl with such pure sound. Truly amazing.
My copy sounds great except on the last track which has a little a bit distorsion and crackles. Has anyone the same or is it bad luck ?
Bring it back to the record shop, complain and get a new copy !
I have cleaned it with my RCM but it didn't change anything.
Perhaps it is a micro dust, try to clean it, just checked my copy, sounds perfect!
Fantastic reissue, fantastic album! Amazing sound and the thick sleeve is a true standout.
Agreed - this has to be one of the best sounding records I have ever heard.
This is the pressing to get - sounds a lot better then the 2017 Nadja reissue.
A bit late to reply, but yes, i have both. This remaster sounds a lot clearer and more well defined compared to the Nadja pressing. The treble is way better.
I just like to know if you compared both versions. I'm about to order this record but Japanese pressings are known to be very good. Thanks for you reply.
WOW just WOW the album is amazing yes we all know that but the pressing is just incredible, id never heard of Half Speed Mastering until I purchased this and his other release Mellow Dreams and even on my crappy system it sounds sublime, probably the best sounding records I own.
you secret
Beautiful album. Beautiful pressing to match. You're risking missing a great experience if you pass this one up.
Just ordered this one. Been listening to this record via youtube for years now and can't wait to finally get a physical copy of this gem.
It shouldn't disappoint. It's the LP that showed the technical flaws with my setup more than any other in my collection.
I 100% agree with the previous commenters. The original recordings were masterfully engineered, and this pressing allows the inherent fidelity of the recordings to SHINE. Fukui's piano sounds like technicoloured silk, the bass is rich, and Yoshinori Fukui's kit can dynamically shift from a floating cloud to a focused whirlwind.Sorry for the ridiculous descriptions, but this LP really is up there with what Analogue Productions & MFSL are doing. The pressing is dead silent, the mastering allows the music to shine, the packaging/print quality is top-notch. Don't sleep on this.
I've never heard a half speed master that sounded this good.
This is probably the best pressing I have in my collection. Not only was the remaster tasteful and well executed, the pressing was of incredible quality. A must have!
