Israel Vibration clearly falls into the latter category. There’s an advantage to that: you know what to expect, you know they won’t disappoint your expectations. The downside is that things get predictable and boring. Even the cover artwork looks like any other Israel Vibration album. There’s so much happening right now in Jamaican music, but listening to Play It Real feels like time had been standing still for three decades. Die-hard fans will delight in songs like the Tosh-quoting Ganja, Wha It Name, the progressive Man Up (The Gladiator’s Droop Lion features on this inappropriately named track), or IRS.
Israel Vibration are a reggae harmony group, originating from Kingston, Jamaica. Lascelle "Wiss" Bulgin, Albert "Apple Gabriel" Craig, and Cecil "Skelly" Spence all overcame childhood polio, and went on to be one of the most successful roots groups to form in Jamaica in the 1970s. The trio initially met as children at a rehabilitation center. Cecil 'Skelly' Spence in Antwerp 2018. Background information. For their third album, Why You So Craven (the title track aimed at their former producer Cowan), they worked with Henry "Junjo" Lawes but disagreements meant that they left the album unfinished, with Lawes getting The Tamlins to complete it.
About Israel Vibration. A living lesson in fortitude, the vocal trio of Cecil "Skeleton" Spence, Albert "Apple Gabriel" Craig, and Lascelle "Wiss" Bulgin overcame adversity, illness, and poverty to become one of the finest roots groups in Jamaica's history. All three had been afflicted by polio and first became acquainted, albeit briefly, at Kingston's Mona Rehabilitation Clinic. Israel Vibration went into Treasure Isle studio with producer U- Booth and recorded the single "Why Worry" and a new version of "Bad Intention" for its flip. In 1977, Israel Vibration began work on their follow-up, "The Same Song," with producer Tommy Cowan.
