Muskrat Love" is a soft rock song written by Willis Alan Ramsey. The song depicts a romantic liaison between two anthropomorphic muskrats named Susie and Sam. It was first recorded in 1972 by Ramsey himself for his sole album release Willis Alan Ramsey. The song was originally titled "Muskrat Candlelight" referencing the song's opening lyric.

America is the debut studio album by America, released in 1971. It was initially released without "A Horse with No Name", which was released as a single in late 1971. When "A Horse with No Name" became a worldwide hit in early 1972, the album was re-released with that track. The album went to No. 1 on the Billboard album chart in the United States and stayed there for five weeks

Lyrics to "Muskrat Love" song by America: Muskrat, muskrat candlelight Doin' the town and doin' it right In the evenin' It's pretty pleasin'. Muskrat Susie, Muskrat Sam Do the jitterbug out in muskrat land And they shimmy And Sammy's so skinny. And they whirled and they twirled and they tangoed Singin' and jingin' the jango Floatin' like the heavens above It looks like muskrat love. Nibbling on bacon, chewin' on cheese Sammy says to Susie "Honey, would you please be my missus?" And she say yes With her kisses. And now he's ticklin' her fancy Rubbin' her toes Muzzle to muzzle, now anything goes As they wriggle, and Sue starts to giggle.

America recorded the song on their 1973 album Hat Trick (it charted at US) before Captain & Tennille recorded their hit version in 1976. This sound was played at the end of the song and included in the end groove of the 45 single, so when the record ended, it played the muskrats on a loop until the record player was attended.

The absent songs from the King Biscuit release include "Here," "Love on the Vine," and "Inspector Mills. As is usual with budget-priced releases of this type, there is no annotation and no indication of the actual date or venue for the performance, or annotation of any sort.
