Scheherazade, also commonly Sheherazade, Op. 35, is a symphonic suite composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov in 1888 and based on One Thousand and One Nights (also known as The Arabian Nights). This orchestral work combines two features typical of Russian music and of Rimsky-Korsakov in particular: dazzling, colorful orchestration and an interest in the East, which figured greatly in the history of Imperial Russia, as well as orientalism in general.
España, rhapsody for orchestra, also arranged for 2 pianos. Seiji Ozawa, Sherman Walt. Scheherazade, symphonic suite for orchestra, Op. 35. 1.
by Seiji Ozawa & Boston Symphony Orchestra & Joseph Silverstein. Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade, O. 5 - The Sea And Sinbad's Ship (Largo e maestoso - Lento - Allegro non troppo - Tranquillo) by Seiji Ozawa & Boston Symphony Orchestra & Joseph Silverstein. It's simply a fine recording of Scheherazade by Seiji Ozawa and the Boston Symphony Orchestra for DG in 1978. Ozawa had a highly successful partnership with the BSO and their playing on this recording is of the highest quality. The sweeping and powerful opening of "The Sea and Sinbad's Ship" by the BSO strings is wonderful to hear with the lush woodwinds and strong brass setting the tone of the whole.
The Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is an American orchestra based in Boston, Massachusetts. It is one of the five major American symphony orchestras commonly referred to as the "Big Five". Founded in 1881, the BSO plays most of its concerts at Boston's Symphony Hall and in the summer performs at Tanglewood. Seiji Ozawa is a Japanese conductor known for his advocacy of modern composers and for his work with the San Francisco Symphony, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He is the recipient of numerous international awards. Tracklist: CD 1: Chabrier: España, Gounod: Faust, Ballet Music, Thomas: Mignon, Overture, Offenbach: Gaîté parisienne 01.
