sweet-voiced and sometimes bombastic. Nicolette Johns, The Blues Alone Holland. Sometimes, the only thing that can soothe your soul is some of those good ole, down-home blues from somebody that sings ’em,and sings ’em well. Dit album toont op een prima wijze aan wat de kracht van deze band is, namelijk blues die kan swingen maar die ook diep emotioneel kan zijn. Ik kan na beluistering van dit album alleen nog maar uitbrengen. Take me in your arms and sugar me, mama !!! - Peter Marinus, Blues Magazine NL.

Sugar Blues" from the Chinatown album may contain some fine and typical Thin Lizzy soloing, but in the words of Lynott biographer Mark Putterford, it also contained "perhaps the most disturbing disclosure of them all". The song is obviously about Lynott's growing addiction to heroin, but as Dublin promoter Smiley Bolger said, "It was so obvious we couldn't see it". Lynott co-wrote "Sugar Blues" with guitarists Scott Gorham and Snowy White, and drummer Brian Downey; it runs to 4 minutes 22 seconds and was released on the album in October 1980.

While Royal Trux is now able to play these blues riffs, they don't have the desire to make them palatable. At heart, they still want to tap into what originally scared people about rock & roll, and to a certain extent they do - they are a viciously anti-social band, snarling vocals and throwing riffs out carelessly. However, they are falling into a netherworld with music that is too slick for indie and too weird for the mainstream, which means Sweet Sixteen is unlikely to appeal outside of their cult.
