Clapton is a 1973 compilation album of Eric Clapton's early solo work. It was the second of two such compilations that Polydor Records would issue; the first, Eric Clapton at His Best, was released in late 1972. Ginger Baker at His Best was part of a set of four double albums consisting of selected individual and collective output of the band and that of its three members. The albums were released in 1972. The Cream album was entitled Heavy Cream, and featured illustrations of Eric Clapton, Baker and Jack Bruce.
Eric Clapton at His Best. Unlike History, most of which contained recordings made by groups in which Clapton was a member, At His Best really was a compilation of work by Clapton the solo artist and band leader, and it featured such notable songs as "After Midnight," "Bell Bottom Blues," "Let It Rain," and "Little Wing. But it also began to glut the market, marking the third LP release in two years for songs like "Blues Power" and "Layla.
Eric Clapton boasts one of the most storied discographies in rock 'n' roll. He got his start in 1963 with the Yardbirds, playing ramped-up versions of American blues and R&B songs. Within two years, he was gone, gigging with British bluesman John Mayall in his band. It was the start of a lifelong pattern for the guitarist: Before the '60s were over, he had done time in Cream, Blind Faith and Delaney and Bonnie and Friends (as well as played a searing solo on pal George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" from the Beatles' White Album). Clapton's take on Jimi Hendrix's ballad "Little Wing," from Derek and the Dominos' only studio album, remains one of rock's all-time best cover songs. Clapton retains the song's plaintive tone, but sparks a stinging riff and solo (with some help from Duane Allman) that take the song to a completely new place.

EASY NOW Eric Clapton (1970). This isn't only the best song on this list; it's one of the finest songs Clapton has ever written. Besides appearing on his debut solo album, "Easy Now" was the B-side of "After Midnight. Because of its stripped-down arrangement, it isn't dated or "stuck in 1970" like a lot of other songs on Eric Clapton Clapton liked this upbeat rocker so much that he closed his "comeback" album ( 461 Ocean Boulevard ) with it. There's some fine guitar playing throughout, not to mention a catchy riff and a meaty breakdown. THE CORE Slowhand (1977).
