99 Cents (stylized as 99¢) is an album by German electroclash trio Chicks on Speed. It was released in 2003 through Chicks On Speed Records and is the group's second album after "Chicks On Speed Will Save Us All". A different approach to their apparent aim to expose the superficiality of pop culture, this album is heavily electronic and, with the exception of Tom Tom Club's "Wordy Rappinghood", features completely original material

Funny, really, that Chicks On Speed – a band that started out as an art-school in-joke at The Munich Academy in 1997 – manage once more to wipe the floor with all of the self-satisfied ‘proper’ bands around. There’s a fine line between clever and stupid and Melissa Logan, Alex Murray-Leslie and Kiki Moorse proudly have one foot either side of the divide: both gleeful party anthem and brorock satire, ‘We Don’t Play Guitars’ sees the Berlin-based Queens of post-punk winning the SOTW rosette for yet another piece of irresistably ramshackle and. homemade avant-punk attitude. First off, the Chicks make it clear that they don’t play guitars. Through the title of the song, in fact. Then they start talking in monotone robovoices about how, instead of possessing any kind of desire whatsoever to fiddle around with six-strings, they’d rather go supermarket shopping like their heroines The Slits.

Chicks on Speed is a feminist music and fine art ensemble, formed in Munich in 1997, when members Australian Alex Murray-Leslie and American Melissa Logan met at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. Chicks on Speed's series of what they call ObjectInstruments sees the group shy away from filling the stage with conventional band instruments, they invented their own instruments, which at times double as fashionable stage outfits –for example: Super suits, outfits which remotely trigger audio/video, and an haute couture hat which is a self-contained amplification device.
