Smith also recuts two of his former ARA classics, Third Rate Romance and The End Is Not In Sight, to pleasing effect. But not being a man to rest on his past glories, he continues to write great material in the 21st century, as amply demonstrated by The King Is In His Castle - a celebration of low rent living (the "king" being "a good ole boy from Birmingham" and his "castle" "a doublewide (trailer) in Gulf Shores, Alabama"). Allow me to sum this fine record up in ten words or less - Mr Smith goes to Muscle Shoals, everybody goes home happy.

Allmusic.com gives this wonderful Album 2.5 Stars - bad joke, I guess. It's all here: Russel Smith's wonderful understated vocals, great Songs and impeccable laid-back musicianship from some of Muscle-Shoals best session cracks. The arrangements are mostly sparse, there's no wall-of-Sound, no Horns etc. but a lot of great slide-guitar playing. He's reworking some of the Aces best known Songs (i.e. Third Rate Romance) and the much improved Sound alone gives a new Dimension to these beloved Songs. I'd give it 4.5 stars. Get it if you can!
